“Beauty and Consolation”
The human condition is defined by its limitations and dissatisfactions. Faced with the bewilderment of the world, humans search for the meaning of existence in pursuit of peace and harmony. We live in an incessant search, trying to find solace for our pain and suffering. We are obsessed with happiness and pleasure but struggle to find consolation.
We nurture singularity and freedom but at the same time we value the sense of belonging and security. Individuality and society are both complementary and antagonistic: within the family, the community and institutions. On the other hand, our collective memory shapes us within this cycle of constant transformation, thus conditioning both our understanding and our vision of the future.
The vertiginous acceleration and mechanization of the world in this era of haste and apathy causes confusion and disorientation. The agitation of contemporary life leads to fragmentation and indifference. We must find an antidote for the hyperactive disquiet which consumes us and distances us from nature and from ourselves. Could it be that our reconciliation with the world can be done through the contemplation of the aesthetic. Could Beauty be our salvation?
Encontros da Imagem, proposes a reflection on “Beauty and Consolation”. The 2018 edition will take place from the 21st of September to the 28th of October, 2018.

Fui desejada, amada e abandonada. Uma e outra vez. Sempre chegava o final.
Algumas vezes fui omnipotente e outras dominada.

“There is a point in space where love and pain meet”
In this autobiographical project, there is reflection on our inner world where the unconscious aspects of our personality emerge in relation to the other, like a mirror image.
Through various “alter egos”, the space, the landscape used as metaphors; are shown small plots of the unconscious that involve all of us for being universal feelings: love, disaffection, abandonment, loneliness, desire, passion.
It shows the shadow that we all bring inside and that will allow us to be who we are, integrating our own shadow will allow us to live with our light and our darkness.
“At that time I was doing street photography when I went to my mom’s house and came to me my grandmother figure in memory, as a presence that inhabited the landscapes of the interior rooms that I started to shoot.”
I thought to myself: “red lips … hair on the pillow”.
I remembered the recrimination that death caused to her, for making me a new widow and a mature woman for others. And I had to learn to relate, naked, with them.
I was desired, loved and abandoned. Over and over again. Always came to an end. And in every ending there is abandonment, pain, longing. A situation that would be repeated over and over again. And I learned that the whole duration is determined.
Sometimes I have been omnipotent and others dominated. One day, he noticed the lack of varnish on one of my nails. And he remained silent.
After a while he knew that my skin was territory, the place where he we would meet. ”
